Shaker Hassan Al Said
Shakir Hassan Al-Said was born in Iraq in 1925. He graduated from the Baghdad Institute o Fine Arts in 1954 and had his first solo exhibition at the Institute of Fine Arts Gallery in Baghdad the same year. He then studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1955 to 1959. In 1976 his work was exhibited at the Venice Biennale and three years later at the Sao Paolo Biennale. Shakir Hassan Al-Said received the First Prize at the International Festival of Baghdad in 1986 as well as the Saddam Prize for the Arts. His work was exhibited in Kuwait, London, Lebanon, and Jordan. In 1971 Shakir Hassan Al-Said founded One Dimension, a group of artists working with calligraphy. His work is present in several public collections, including Baghdad International Airport, Ghazi Sultan Hall, Kuwait, and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.
